Cybill Shepherd born as Cybill Lynne Shepherd on February 18th, 1950 in Memphis, Tennessee, USA is a famous American model-turned actress and singer.
Cybill Shepherd was born to William Jennings Shepherd and Patty Shobe. Shepherd who grew up to be a fashion icon of the '60s was crowned Model of the Year in 1968. She was earlier crowned Miss Teenage Memphis in 1966.
Cybill Shepherd was featured on several magazine covers including Glamour magazine. Her photo shoots in one of the Glamour magazines in 1970 has caught the eye of the Polly Platt, the then wife of film director Peter Bogdanovich, who in turn offered Cybill Shepherd a role in his movie "The Last Picture Show" in 1971.
Cybill Shepherd's debut performance in the movie shot her to fame earning her a Golden Globe nomination for her outstanding performance. Her next movie "The Heartbreak Kid" {1972} made her one of the critically acclaimed actresses of her time. She then followed up her success streak with movies such as "Taxi Driver" {1976}, "The Lady Vanishes" {1979}, "Chances Are" {1989}, "Texasville" {1990}, Woody Allen's "Alice" {1990}, Eugene Levy's "Once Upon a Crime" {1992}, "The Last Word" {1995} and a number of made-for-television movies.
Cybill made her television debut with a guest role in "Fantasy Island" in 1983. In the same year she bagged a recurring role of Colleen Champion on "The Yellow Rose" {22 episodes: 1983-1984}. In 1985, she played Madelyn 'Maddie' Hayes in "Moonlighting" {54 episodes: 1985-1989} starring alongside Bruce Willis. Their chemistry on "Moonlighting" made them the most celebrated television duo. "Moonlighting" also won Cybill two Golden Globes in 1986 & 1987, and two nominations: one from Emmy in 1986 and one from Golden Globe in 1988.
Cybill once again followed up her award-winning performance on CBS' "Cybill" {87 episodes: 1995-1998} in which she played the role of Cybill Sheridan, a character loosely based on her acting career. She won a Golden Globe in 1996 and received another nomination in 1997, one Satellite Awards nomination in 1997 & 3 Emmy nominations from 1995-1997 for her performance on "Cybill". She won People's Choice Awards, USA for three consecutive years from 1986 to 1988. She also received a Star on the Walk of Fame Television At 7000 Hollywood Blvd. Shepherd in 2000 published her autobiography co-written with Aimee Lee Ball.
Cybill Shepherd married David Ford, a local businessman in Memphis on November 19th, 1978. They together have a daughter named Clementine Ford born 1979. Their marriage came to an end in divorce in 1982.
She later married a chiropractor Bruce Oppenheim on March 1st, 1987. They together have twins named Zack and Ariel Shepherd-Oppenheim. They divorced in 1990. Cybill later got engaged to musician Robert Martin and had a live-in relationship with him for four years from 1994 to 1998.
